Psychiatric Evaluations

A psychiatric evaluation is an important step in understanding a person's mental health needs and determining what type of treatment may be appropriate. At Solstice Counseling & Wellness Centers, psychiatric evaluations are used to support accurate assessment, treatment planning, and coordination of care.

Evaluations may be recommended for clients experiencing mood symptoms, anxiety, trauma-related concerns, substance use concerns, medication questions, or co-occurring behavioral health needs.

What the Evaluation Reviews

A psychiatric evaluation may include discussion of current symptoms, medical and behavioral health history, medication history, substance use history, family history, safety concerns, prior treatment, and the client’s current goals.

The purpose is to form a clearer clinical picture and identify recommendations that fit the person’s needs.

When an Evaluation May Be Helpful

An evaluation may be helpful when symptoms are interfering with daily functioning, when a client is unsure whether medication should be considered, when treatment has not been working as expected, or when there are multiple concerns that need to be understood together.

It may also support coordination between counseling, medication management, substance use treatment, primary care, or outside providers.

Recommendations and Next Steps

After the evaluation, the provider may recommend medication management, counseling, additional assessment, coordination with medical providers, or another level of care. Recommendations are based on clinical need, safety, client preference, and available treatment options.

Solstice works with clients to make the next step understandable and practical.
